Natural Flood Disasters
When a natural disaster flood hits bar coded Pack-outs are not feasible. Most importantly we can’t pack and store wet, contaminated items.
We can however offer a contents manipulation service to put major items on lift blocks in your garage or move damaged items to curbside for trash removal. Your estimator will price this on site.
FEMA insurance is designed for: Home repair assistance, to repair an owner-occupied primary residence, is intended to make the damaged home safe, sanitary and functional. FEMA will not pay to return a survivor’s home to its pre-disaster condition. (per FEMA: www.fema.gov/news- release/2018/06/14).
Insurance Pack-out
For water damage that is covered by your insurance company, the action of referencing, cleaning, checking each item for pre-existing damage, photographing, and cross -referencing each item is called pack-out.
Pack-out is a skilled labor-intensive process that involves a team of a dozen technicians skilled in this work. The biggest challenge is cross-referencing each item by photograph and creating a bar code so that we know which item has been packed into which storage box.
One of the biggest costs is creating that bar-coded tracking report. For this reason, Pack-outs are always pre-authorized by your insurance company adjuster so we all know they will cover the cost.
When mitigation and repairs are completed your Contents are then PackBack and cross-checked against the original inventory Photo Report.
Wet Items Pack-Out
Wet items can’t be packed until they are dry. With floods where contaminates are brought into the home most soft fabric items or wood items are not cleanable and have to be trashed. There are specialist cleaners and upholstery companies that can be brought for items that are too valuable to discard. Wet items from pipe leaks can be dried and then stored.
After a fire, there are two forms of contaminants: the smoke particles saturate fabrics and the water used to extinguish the fire that is absorbed into many items.
Storage of polished wood items can also put these pieces at risk from warpage and dulling of polished surfaces. When an item is wrapped it is not getting the polished treatment, care, and attention it would in your home. For these reasons, while we take every care to individually wrap and store pieces depreciation from pre-existing damage even if not visible such as smoke particulates and humidity cannot be guaranteed.
For these reasons, stored items should be returned to your home as quickly as possible because our facility in constant use.
Frequently Asked Questions
Cost of Pack-out and Pack-back are subject to insurance approval. Mostly, the cost is calculated on a Time and Material (T&M) basis using insurance accepted software backed up by daily logs that show the names the team members on site, times there, the materials they used from boxes to packing wraps. All this information is put into the T&M software along with supporting logs and photos and sent to the insurance company to review, approve and pay us direct.
Frontier crew will not pack-out any medicines, drugs, medical equipment, guns, ammunition, gas canisters (Propane etc.), money, jewelry, bonds, or other high value items. You as the owner should pack these items yourself and keep them separated. Laptops and computers have batteries and personal information. Keep them safe and checked by a trusted computer store.
Works of Art can be packed out, but we use specialist Art Packers who store in a climate-controlled facility and who inventory separately. Again, this process is pre-approved by your adjuster.
You have the option of getting a storage facility of your own and we will transport your contents there and load it up for you. It will be your facility and you have the key and your insurance company will need to agree to reimburse you.
We will provide you a printed copy of the Pack-out Report showing which contents are packed in which bar-coded boxes. The benefit here is that you have direct access to your contents at any time the facility is open.
The alternative is to have Frontier storage your contents in our vaults. A vault is a 4x4x8 wooden box which is standard in the industry. Each vault is labelled and cross referenced to the boxes. Large items are double wrapped and stored on a numbered rack space. Most standard homes of around 2,000sf have 4 to 6 vaults/racks in our 20,000sf facility.
